A well written plan will not only give the small business owner the guidelines on how to implement his or her business but will also give the small business owner short term and long term objectives which need to be achieved at each stage of implementation. A small business owner needs to know what services he is offering the client and how the client is expected to benefit. The small business owner will also need to know who the client is and where this client can be found. The small business owner needs to focus on communicating with the client. The mission of the small business owner should be so clear that the market is able to comprehend who the small business owner is and how the goods and/or services being offered by the small business owner will add value to the market.
For a small business to be successful, the small business owner needs to be in control. He or she will need to know what he want to do, who s/he is planning to do it with, how, where and when. Things should not just unfold but rather, the small business owner should be in command of the direction the business is taking. The small business owner should be careful not to take on too many responsibilities or else s/he risks suffering burnout. If there are a few employees then the small business owner should consider delegating a few tasks here and there.
