Leadership/Policymaking:

As a Commissioner on the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Telecommunications Advisory board (1/2010-1/2013), I am one of a team of five commissioners appointed to a three-year term to provide research, guidance and recommendations for the full city council to adopt as regarding the City\'s telecommunications and technology operations, including oversight of the local cable franchise.
During my tenure at LEXIS-NEXIS (12/1996-12/2000), I served on the Internet Center of Expertise (COE) and the Telecom COE. We were responsible for researching relevant issues regarding the Internet and Telecommunications and automated document systems, develop policies and procedures to integrate these issues into our business model and to disseminate those policies and procedures throughout our department.
While at Montgomery County Ohio (3/1991-8/1996), I served on the Montgomery County Information Systems Group (CISG). I was the head of the Networking and Communications sub-committee.

Teaching/Training

As an substitute instructor at the ITT Eden Prairie campus (7/2010 - present), I am \"on call\" to substitute for regular instructors, who are unavailable to teach their normal class sessions due to scheduled vacation or unscheduled emergency. I am paid on a per class basis.

As a Short Call substitute for ISD 720 in Shakopee, MN (4/2010-present) I am on call to cover paraprofessionals and teachers who are not able to be present at work on any given day. Most of my assignments have been working in classrooms with autistic or other children with special needs. I am also paid on a daily basis.

As an Adjunct (part-time) instructor at Rasmussen College (7/2008-present) I teach one to three residential or online courses each quarter, based on demand. I teach courses in Information Technology and Web Programming including: Java, JavaScript, HTML/xHTML, MySQL, PHP, Perl/CGI, Intro to PC\'s, PC hardware I&II, Intro to programming logic.

As an Adjunct Faculty Member at Miami Jacobs Business School in Dayton, Ohio (9/2001-3/2002) I taught 1-3 classes per semester based on enrollment. Courses included: E-commerce and Internet Security, Legal and political impact of the Internet, Networking topolgies, High Speed Connectivity, CompTIA A+ preparation, CompTIA Network+ preparation.

At LEXIS-NEXIS , I coached new call center agents and observed them while they took calls until they were ready to take calls unassisted.

Technology Support


As a IT Lab Technical Support Analyst at Capella University (8/2010-Present Contract Position) I fielded calls and emails from learners and troubleshot issues involving VMWare, XML, Java, NetBeans, SQL server 2008, MySQL, Microsoft Expression Web, VMWare Lab Manager, HTML, and Windows Remote Desktop. Also wrote and updated articles on the support site http://vle1.capella.edu/Default.aspx.

As a Client Tech Specialist for Findlaw (a division of Thomson-Reuters 5/2005-10/2007) I provided telephonic and email-based support for clients, project managers, field sales and field technical support reps (ours and the clients) to anticipate and resolve issues involved in moving the clients websites from their previous website and e-mail hosts to Findlaw\'s web and email servers. Additional duties involved researching and verifying ownership of internet domain for our clients and working with the client or their previous web host to obtain and verify the login, passwords and other information needed to facilitate a smooth transfer of ownership/control. I also assisted in using internet tools Ping, TraceRoute and NSLookup to identify and resolve issues related to internet routing, IP address issues, Domain Name Service (DNS), or email delivery basis.

While working as a hardware tech at Easychair Software (now profit systems 10/2003-6/2004) I built and configured Red Hat Linux Based Servers and Windows XP based workstations and shipped them to the field. I also repaired servers and workstations that were shipped in from the field to fix issues that could not be resolved telephonically. I also consulted with clients on how to best connect our systems to their internet connectivity.

At LEXIS-NEXIS I provided telephonic support of all client methods used to connect to our system including modems and Internet. I also worked with clients to create access paths through their firewalls to the LEXIS-NEXIS online service. When browser issues prevented timely access to our web-based products I worked with the end users to troubleshoot and resolve those issues.

While at Montgomery County I managed all PC/Network operations for the Montgomery County Treasurers Office. In six months, the number of complaints about the timeliness of response and quality of work on support calls dropped from 5-10 per day to zero per day.

Consulting

As the owner of my own freelance Web Design and Internet Consulting practice, ( 1/2001-1/2002) , I worked with clients to build their initial or improve their existing web presence by helping them determine the goal of their website, helping develop content and a call to action that supported that goal, helping them find, select and register an appropriate internet domain. Worked with the clients web designer (or became the designer if none) to develop and host the website. I also prepared and delivered quarterly briefings to clients notifying them of legal, technical or political/regulatory issues impacting them as website owners.


Retail

From 6/2002-10/2003 and 10/2008-11/2009 I worked at OfficeMax, first as a sales floor associate, later as sales supervisor. Responsible for driving revenue while maintaining target levels of customer satisfaction.
