Biography - Betty Coonrad

Betty Widney Coonrad was born in 1927 in Pasadena, California. She attended
schools in the Pasadena area and earned her A.A. degree from Pasadena City
College. In 1947, Betty met Homer Woodward Coonrad. Homer was the son of
missionary parents who served in China where he spent his formative years
growing up. Con, his appointed nick name was sent to the United States to
live with relatives after the Japanese invaded China prior to World War II.
Betty and Con were married on Valentine\'s Day, February 14th, 1948.

Betty and Con remained in Pasadena after their marriage. They had four
children, two boys and two girls. In 1956, they moved from Pasadena to
Laguna Beach, California.

In the early 1970\'s, Betty was asked to help make costumes for the \"Pageant
of the Masters\", which is a nightly performance at the Laguna Beach
Festival of the Arts. After one year, Betty was asked to head the costume
design department and held that position for eight years.

After leaving the Festival, Betty began a catering business where her
culinary expertise was instrumental in achieving a successful two year
endeavor. After two of her children\'s families moved to Northern
California, Mook and Pop left Laguna Beach for the Santa Cruz Mountains.

After their move, Betty continued to work in the food business. She held
various positions at a popular camp called Redwood Christian Park in
Boulder Creek, California.
Some of her duties included coordinating menus, cooking, and acting as
hostess for attending campers.

In 1994, the Coonrads headed to the Mother Lode area of California and
settled in a town named Twain Harte. They purchased a quaint \"cedar sided\"
cabin built in 1927.

Today, Betty continues to organize, cook, and bake for large and small
church functions such as the Easter Breakfast. She also supplies a wide
variety of people, like the \"mail lady\", the plumber, various neighbors and
friends, with a countless variety of cookies and baked goods.

Mook bakes bread on a weekly basis for her and Pop\'s consumption.
