I am a highly accomplished operations director and problem solver with 25
years of leadership within the military, corporate and SMEs, and 15 years
directing my own consultancies.

I have a track record of driving projects and programmes to completion,
leaving behind a leadership culture where the organisation has a better
understanding of itself, the marketplace and how to challenge poor
processes and decision making.

TEAM APOGEE LTD, Managing Director 2004 to
present
Created this company to provide professional leadership facilities to SME
organisation. Significant projects included:

Project: Clement Clarke Communications
Project-managed the development and production of an electronic device
between this company and a firmware developer:
. Led project from schematic to production in 5 months reducing cycle by
over 4 months.
. Established more cost effective suppliers
. Reduced manufacturing cost for 60,000 units by 720K (42%).
. Facilitated crisis meetings between the client and the firmware
company
. Arbitrated between these two companies when their differences
threatened to derail the project
. Developed management team through mentoring, coaching and role
modelling leadership.
The project was completed two weeks ahead of schedule which resulted in
further savings, including reducing my fees to the company.

Project: Haag-Streit AG
Identified the reasons that this manufacturing organisation was
underperforming, operationally and financially. Through a parallel process:
. Mentored the senior management in recognising how they were the cause
of the problems.
. Coached senior management to fundamentally change their leadership
styles without losing their personal qualities.
. Facilitated cross departmental meetings encouraging openness, respect
and creativity,
. Generated common purpose through leading group creation of a customer
charter.

MD reported that his team was much more focused and he utilised them more
to aid his decision making. The general manager reported he was better at
breaking the rules to save the mission, doing what was right, risking being
unpopular, whilst maintaining his collaborative leadership style.


Project: Have a Nice Day Limited
Developed this struggling events company into a thriving Business
Networking business.
. Coached and mentored MD, creating a vision and building his focusing.
. Identified key target markets
. Established the Branding and Marketing Strategy
. Wrote the Business Plan and raised Angel Capital of 10k
Company was in profit within one month, three clubs being open within six
weeks of investment. On target to open 20 clubs by the end of 2009
generating 240k turnover from a standing start. Customers comment on the
MDs personal effectiveness.


CULTURAL DYNAMICS LTD, Operations Director and Company Secretary
2001 - 2004
(One of 3 business partners) Significant projects included:
With my fellow directors we advised Six Continents on the branding of their
chains of Public Houses. This led to them developing the three flagship
brands: All Bar One, Edwards, and the Goose. These are all very different
Public Houses, targeted at specific groups of the UK population.


G&P QUALITY, Partner 1991 -
2001
(Initially as a partnership of 2 for 3 years, and then as a sole trader
Specialising in Quality) Significant projects included:

Project: Kelvin Hughes
Was engaged to evaluate quality management system. Uncovered several areas
where the process was excessive including 100% goods inward inspection.
. Reduced inspection to 10% for preferred suppliers.
. Trained quality department to set inspection levels for non preferred
suppliers.
. Set up an internal Auditor programme
. Reduced the size of the inspection team by 50%
. Set strategy to incorporate a JIT supply process.
This greatly speeded up component availability and enabled component stock
levels to be reduced by over 10m in three months.

Project: MTD Ltd
Identified difficulty of locating stock and time-consuming nature of
customer stock reports
. Created a simple stock control system
. Wrote a short software programme that identified rack spaces; enabled
space to be allocated to incoming product, speeded up stock location,
and generated customer stock reports
. Installed ISO 9002.
This enabled the warehouse to speed up deliveries and keep the customer
informed about stock levels. It also enabled them to provide an extra
service; warning the customer of low stock and giving them an opportunity
to maintain cost effective levels.


BT LONDON PAYPHONE SERVICE 1988 -
1990 Maintenance Manager / Serviceability Improvement Manager / Quality
Assurance Manager
Held a number of roles, with responsibility for 300 staff and managers who
repaired street coin and card payphones across London.
. Identified key fault reporting hardware
. Highlighted shortcomings in equipment, the component repair
facilities, training of the engineers and physical resources.
. Co-ordinated all technical improvements across an estate of 22,000
payphones
. Co-ordinating engineer training. Identified critical issues with
street equipment, engineering resources and training.
. Oversaw the Installation and accreditation of ISO 9000 across the
London Division.

MILTARY CONSULTANCY

Senior Consultant Engineer - Saudi Operations and Maintenance Company
1990 - 1991
During Desert Storm:
. Changed national training facility into repair facility whilst
ensuring it could be returned to its intended use later.
. Trained Saudi technicians to carry out field repairs
. Recommissioned and repaired electronic equipments ready for conflict.
. Found innovative ways to repair equipments with few spares.
Three major pieces of equipment were made available for the conflict
because of my innovative way of looking at things.

Senior Engineer - International Military Services Saudi Arabia
1986 - 1988
Became the knowledge font in creating solutions to working in desert
conditions for all equipment and fault finding, including those outside my
official skill set. Was instrumental in setting up and running key regular
meetings between the Saudi military and IMS to discuss progress, planning
and operational needs.

As a Senior Equipment Instructor created new courses on military electronic
hardware. Recognised for taking very complex concepts and making them
simple to understand.

Field Engineer - Benson Electronic
1986 - 1986
Responsible for repair and servicing equipment used in CAD systems across
London and the South East region. Quickly became the 'expert' for
electrostatic plotters and was the preferred engineer at many customer
sites, including top secret military establishments, because of my 'can do'
attitude and understanding of the consequences of faulty equipment.

Engineer - Airwork Limited Sultanate of Oman
1984 - 1986
Identified serious problems with the maintenance facility and quickly
gained reputation for problem solving on many pieces of equipment. Raised
equipment serviceability from 60% to more than 90% in three weeks.
Maintained this level throughout annual military exercise period by re-
establishing correct fault finding and repair procedures, raising spares
holding to a more realistic level and introducing field repair cover. Also
reduced the need to backload (distance of 1,200 km) major and important
equipments for base repair by 75%.


Armed Forces
Prior to 1984
Served in many units and in many posts around the world. Acquired a
reputation for being a technical troubleshooter and problem solver with a
no-nonsense, 'can do' attitude.
