While still in high school, he worked for Montgomery Wards. His assignment was to help the person in charge of the care of plants in the garden shop. After several months, Mr. Stewart was in full charge of the nursery, including ordering of the plants. He redesigned the layout and increased the variety of plants carried, which greatly increased the sales in this department.

While working for Arrow Rents, he managed the party and medical rental division. Under his leadership, he found a new location, made all the arrangements and negotiations of the lease. He built it up to be the most profitable of three locations. The new location The Party Place, became the largest party rental store in Ventura County.

In 1979 his father, started a one-way trailer rental system (similar to U-haul). It started out operating regionally on the West Coast and soon became a nationwide operation when it was merged with another small system on the East Coast. David developed the computer programs to track the trailer inventory and to calculate the dealer and fleet owners commission checks. this was done on one of the early micro computers, an IMSAI 8080. During this time, he also traveled throughout the country to sign up and train new dealers, as well as, inspect and motivate existing dealers. The operation of One-Way Trailers required substantial amounts of copies each month. Because of this, he created Quality Copy and Computer Service in 1980 with One-Way Trailers as one of his principal customers.

He started his existing copy store on less than a shoe string in 1980. He borrowed $3,000 and his brother borrowed $2,000. After researching the market, he rented an office across from the Ventura County Government Center in the City of Ventura and initially rented a Xerox 9400 high speed copier (top of the line model). Over the years he has built up Quality Copies, buying many machines and adding many capabilities. Quality Copies has been in business many years and has survived two recessions and intense local competition from Kinkos.
In 1982, having a keen awareness and understanding of computers, Mr. Stewart envisioned an opportunity for growth by opening a computer division. Quality Computers was opened adjacent to Quality Copies and became dealers for Commodore and Zenith Computers. At one point in time, Quality Computers had an outside sales force of four as well as a computer repair service department. Mr. Stewart also helped design and install some of the first computer labs in school districts throughout Ventura County.

When Commodore came out with the C64 Computer, a low cost color computer, he saw a need for a ten-keypad attachment to make number entry easy. He developed a prototype and found several subcontractors to build various components. He did the final assembly, packaging and shipping, in-house and marketed it nationwide through ads in computer magazines. He also sold them through a major wholesale distributor.

Mr. Stewart was a working owner. He operated all equipment in the Quality Copies store. Additionally, he performed his own maintenance on his equipment including Xerox 9500, 1075, 5065 and 2080. He also did all his own sales, bookkeeping, stock ordering, customer relations and myriad areas incumbent in managing and operating a reprographic facility.

In 1995 Mr. Stewart, in conjunction with a partner, opened a new Division of Quality Copies, Quality CD Document Solutions, which was dedicated to converting paper, tape, or floppy disc products to CD/ROM. This has enhanced his computer skills. He developed, installed, and maintained an eight computer network.

In 1997 His partner bought Mr. Stewart out. He then took over Summit Golf, a golf club manufacturing and marketing company. Unfortunately the previous owner made gross misrepresentations. He closed the business down in May 1998.

Mr. Stewart has worked in Real Estate doing sales, appraisals, and loan originations.

Mr. Stewart also is developing several Internet web sites including
