A graduate of Stuyvesant High School, Loren Weiss is a nationally-ranked chess player. One of New York’s three original Specialized Schools, Stuyvesant High School is highly regarded for its molding of excellent science and math students as well as for the high performance of its academic teams. According to the US Chess Federation (USCF), Loren Weiss is rated 27th in the nation in his age group.

During his time at Stuyvesant, Loren Weiss was a member of the school’s chess team, which won numerous first- and second-place awards at tournaments across the country. He participated in the Scholastic National High School Chess Championships in 2008, 2009, and 2010 in Atlanta; Nashville, Tennessee; and Columbus, Ohio. Loren Weiss is also a member of the renowned Greenwich Village Marshall Chess Club, a nearly century-old institution where the legendary Bobby Fischer defeated Donald Byrne at the age of thirteen in what would come to be known as the “Game of the Century.” Loren tied for first place in the Under-2000 division of the New Yorker Open tournament and achieved the prize award of the Under-2200 division at the New York International Chess Tournament in June 2012. He has been ranked in the top one hundred chess players by age each year since 2005.

In addition to his outstanding scholastic record at Stuyvesant, where he was recommended for math honors, Loren Weiss also served as an intern for Court Attorney Shannon Taylor in the Criminal Court Law Department of New York in the fall of 2010.

He has also given his time to various charitable organizations and activities. In 2010, he participated in the Free to Breathe Lung Cancer 5K Run/Walk in Philadelphia. This event is sponsored by the National Lung Cancer Partnership, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness, increasing funding, and improving care for lung cancer patients. Loren Weiss also volunteered planting bulbs in the West Side Community Garden in the spring of 2012.
