Gangotri is a most religious pilgrimage destination dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Gangotri is one of the important parts of Chardham Yatra. It is situated at an elevation of 3100 mts above the sea level. The Yatra commence from Yamunotri then move to Gangotri and finally reach at Kedarnath and Badrinath. River Ganga is known as the name of Bhagirathi at Gangotri and after Devprayag when it meets in Alaknanda River and got name Ganga.
Gaumukh is one of the major attractions of this place. Gaumukh is the origin point of River Ganga situated 19 km from Gangotri Temple. It is a beautiful Glacier lake offered the most beautiful trekking route to reach.
The Temple opens in the last week of April or first week of May and closes after two days of Diwali on the day of Bhai Duj. May to June is the best time to take part in the yatra with pleasant weather. Again September to till Diwali is the best time to take part in the yatra with cool weather. From July to till August monsoon take place here with moderate rainfall. Don?t forget to carry heavy woolen clothes during yatra.
