Beautiful view of The Mt. Grant range.
There are 2 full service truck stops, a Casino, RV Park & fast food. Safeway is the primary Grocery store. In recent years, the town has acquired a Family Dollar and Dollar General. The Post Office is about a 1/2 mile away. As most of what you need is contained within 1 square mile, the area is excellent for bicycling or walking to get to your day to day places.
Hawthorne's main employer is the Hawthorne Army Depot...The Worlds Largest Ammunition Depot. The USMC personnel stationed at Pickel Meadows in Bridgeport, CA (about 75 miles away) routinely use the area for training. Both active and civilian employees of the Fallon NAS also has live in Hawthorne as it is just an hour commute.
The Isabella Pearl mine just opened, and Tesla and solar is expanding in the area.
Hawthorne is also a gateway community to Yosemite National Park and world class skiing at Mammoth Lakes and June Mountain. The area is surrounded by public land that offers countless recreational opportunities: camping, ATV/UHV trail riding, mountain biking, horse riding.
With the development of the I-11 corridor coming thru the area, the town will experience a boom in construction industries to build the interstate. There is already talk of transportation hubs moving or relocating to the area, which will bring many different trades and general labor jobs. Hawthorne will be an exciting place to watch develop and ;grow over the next 10-15 years.
There is also a solar field right by the Isabella Pearl and we have heard that it will be expanding. I?ve been paying attention to the NDOT development of the I-11 corridor. At the last town meeting, they announced that They WILL NOT be blasting thru the Gabbs range. The 10,000 Commercial drivers that use HWY 95 have been lobbying to bring the route thru Hawthorne as the railroad still has ROWs and there is talk of several trucking firms putting in hubs between Hawthorne and Luning to support both 1-11 and the reconnection of rail. Then you have Tesla mining lithium around Silver peak. Rural Southwest Nevada is poised for exciting develop in the coming years, and Hawthorne will be the Bright Spot between Reno and Vegas.
Tonopah has to over come a huge health and EMS service issue before it will can grow. It is too far to be serviced by helicopter air ambulance from either Reno or Vegas, and the Hospital was forced to close. I think they are only operating as a clinic.
Hawthorne has always maintained very good rural health services with many specialists from Reno and Carson maintaining office hours in the community. The Volunteer Fire and EMS is staffed mostly by people that are employed by Fallon NAS or Hawthorne Army Fire and EMS protection services. The schools are of average quality for Nevada, and if anything, being smaller, they offer more personalized teaching and attention as would be common in a private school setting. The community is VERY pro sports. Hawthorne has always had an excellent baseball team, and few major league players had their starts in Hawthorne.
Being a military town, Hawthorne is also VERY supportive of its it active, former and retired military.
This is a home that is ideal for a retiree, military or family that doesn?t have the time or energy to invest in one that needs immediate maintenance and repair or landscaping. The Home Warranty, as you know, adds added piece of mind.
