Yamunotri is one of the four important pilgrimage sites known as the chardham. The charming town Yamunotri is popular for its ?Yamunotri Shrine?, Dedicated to goddess Yamuna. Yamunotri is the source of River Yamuna located at an elevation of 3294 meters above the sea level and lies on the Bandar Poonch Parvat. It is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhnad. Yamunotri Dham is one of four Chardham and the starting point of Chardham Yatra. Every year thousands of the devotees visit this pilgrimage site from all around the country. Yamunotri temple is one of the major attractions of the place, surrounding by the mountains range for all sides and close of the indo-China Border. The temple opens on the day of Akshya Tritiya on the last week of April or first week of May and close after two days of diwali on the day of Bhai Doj. According to the hindu mythology Yamuna is daughter of God Sun and sister of Goddess Yama ?God of death?. The temple has a great story, the place was home of a great sage ?Asti Muni? and he was taken bath in Ganga River every day but when he become old and not able to reach Ganga, then Goddess Ganga was appeared in the opposite site of Yamunotri to continue his bath. It is believed that if the devotee takes bath in the River it reduced the painful death or unnatural death. Champasar glacier is the origan points of Yamuna river located 1 km from Yamunotri Temple, which is quite difficult to reach. In a large number, devotees visit this destination during the month of May to till the month October. The temple was found by the Adi Shankracharya but the present temple built by the Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in 19th century. Divya Shila is a rock pillar worshiped by the devotees before Yamunotri. Surya Kund is a natural hot water spring situated near the Yamunotri Temple dedicated to God Sun. Janki Chatti is situated 3 km from Yamunotri and one of the natural hot water sprins. Hanuman Chatti is situated at a distance of 9 km from Yamunotri Temple and this is the place where you can see the confluence of Yamuna River and Hanuman Ganga. Apart from these the place is offered the some adventure activities like Rock climbing and trekking. Kharsali is the winter seat of Goddess Yamuna. When the destination is not accessible to reach due to heavy snowfall, the idol is transferred to Karshali for the next six months. The destination is well connected by Air, Railway and Roadway. Yamunotri is well connected by the motorable road with major destination of Uttarakhand. Hanuman chatti is the ending point of Road and the trekking starts here to reach Yamunotri.
