Traditionally, Dokra art originated from the Dhokra Tribe who manufactures intricate pieces of art. Dokra art is one of the oldest forms of metal casting as it was started 4,500 years back in the times of Mohenjo-Daro. Dokra art pieces are made in an interesting manner. The craftsmen follow the traditional lost wax procedure. It starts with designing the clay and then layering it with wax, nut oil and resin. .Also known as the Bell Metal Sculptures known for their quality as well as beauty. The making of the Bell Metal Sculptures involves intricately patterning a clay core with wax ribbons and then coating it with a mixture of clay and hay.
The wax is subsequently melted off, and the cavity formed is filled with molten metal. Wax is carved and the details are drawn again as the clay acts as a mould for the metal art pieces. When this solidifies, the outer clay shell is cautiously broken to reveal the Bell Metal Sculptures- Dhokra art.
