About Royal Order Of Jesters

As The Royal Order Of Jesters Begins Its Second Century Of Existence, It Continues To Follow The Traditions Of Its Founding Fathers. The Royal Order Of Jesters Draws Its Membership From The Shriners Organization, A Subsidiary Branch Of Freemasonry, And Each Regional Group Known As A Court Invites Only 13 New Members. Once Admitted To The Order, The New Members Receive The Title Of Jester. In 1911, Following A Testimonial Banquet Of The Shriners Aboard The S.S. Wilhelmina In Hawaii, Noble A.M. Ellison Called Together 13 Other Nobles In The Captain's Office For The Establishment Of A Group That Became The Royal Order Of Jesters. In Forming The Royal Order Of Jesters, They Created A Fraternity Reflecting The History Of Licensed Court Jesters In Medieval Times, Choosing As Their Motto “Mirth Is King” To Express The Light-hearted Nature Of The Organization. The Organization Abides By The Book Of The Play, A Ritual Originally Inscribed By Ellison, Who Presented The Completed Ritual At The Organization's Third Meeting In 1920, Where It Received Unanimous Approval. Parts Of The Book Of The Play Include William S. Brown's Creed Of A Jester, The Toast To Goodfellowship, And Edward Royland Sill's The Fool's Prayer. Each Founding Member Received A Title: George Filmer Became The Royal Director, James S. McCandless The Royal Heavy Man, William M. Beamish The Royal Serio Comic, J. Benton Leggat The Royal Tragedian, D. E. Perkins The Royal Light Comedian, Frederick Smith The Royal Leading Lady, William S. Brown The Royal Soubrette, A. C. Brode The Royal Property Man, George H. Green The Royal Constable, Peter Johnson The Royal Master Transportation, And Fred A. Hines And Lou B. Winsor Royal Censors, While A.M. Ellison Himself Became The Royal Impresario.
